Tourism is the major industry in Puerto Peñasco. Accommodations are incredible. Most of the lodgings are vacation rentals, such as beach front homes and condos, that are rented on a nightly basis. The result is a phenomenal value and lots of bang for the buck when staying in one of these Seaside properties. Puerto Peñasco is in a free zone; no visa or passport is required until January 2008, just a driver's license and your vehicle registration. Peñasco has a large English-speaking community so getting around without speaking Spanish is never a problem.
Puerto Peñasco has beautiful public beaches. The community has sandy beaches in most areas but also has some very unique, rocky shorelines around the Old Port (also known as the Malecón ) and Whale Hill. The best swimming is from May through October. Boating, sunbathing, and water sports are the popular activities.
Many Sand Sport enthusiasts are drawn to Puerto Peñasco because riding ATVs and Quads on the city streets is permitted as long as you obey the traffic laws. The unique desert/ beachfront environment creates a plethora of sand dunes and miles of riding trails for those who want to spend their day in their sand toys.

Do I need permits, Visas or a Passport to enter Rocky Point?
You don't need anything but a drivers license to enter Puerto Peñasco since it is a free zone. If you wish to bring a certified Birth Certificate, you may do so, but it is rare that they as for it. Passport are required to return to the United States. Minors will only need a birth certificate and photo id to return to the United States.
Do we need insurance?
Yes, we suggest you use Adventure Mexican Insurance Services, Inc. It is required to have Liability, but we always recommend Full coverage. Its worth the extra few dollars.
How much Alcohol & Shrimp can we bring back to the U.S.?
1 liter of Alcohol per adult or 5 Kilos of Fish or Shrimp.
What if we have car trouble on the highway in Mexico?
Mexico has traveling mechanics called "Angels Verdes" (Green Angels) that will help motorists in distress. They drive green and white pickup trucks. They will do their very best to get you safely back on the road.
